1TBSP

1tbsp is an indie-house/dance project from Australian artist Maxwell Byrne, a Grammy Award Nominee recognized for his contributions as a songwriter/producer under the alias Golden Vessel.

In 2019, Byrne delved into the realms of house music while curating tracks for his DJ gigs at "Sumoclic Nights," a monthly event he hosted in Brisbane. This exploration resulted in the creation of original tracks for his sets, eventually evolving into a compelling collection of songs he was eager to share with a wider audience.

Diverging from the familiar Golden Vessel sound, Byrne birthed the new project, 1tbsp. In 2021, he unveiled his debut four-track EP, "kanashī," through Sumoclic, a label co-owned with his friend Connor Grant (aka Akurei). The EP garnered acclaim and attention globally, accumulating over 3.6 million streams on Spotify alone.

Inspired by such a positive response, Byrne continued to craft more music for 1tbsp, releasing double-singles "Dhollandia // Circles" and "Stay Up // Rest." He expanded his performances to festivals and events, supporting artists like Young Franco, BAYNK, and daste. during their Australian tours.

Throughout 2022, Byrne collaborated with Nick Ward, Allan McConnell, Squidgenini, and Sampology, culminating in the four-track EP "Joan," released in December.

Entering 2023 on a high note, Byrne dropped three stellar singles – "Pioneer Digital Plastic Sound," "No Nein (feat. Mietze Conte)," and "Four Tet Is My Godmother." This marked the precursor to his upcoming EP, "It's Very Loud," released on March 16th via Sumoclic. The EP, featuring the aforementioned singles and an unheard gem, included the title track "It's Very Loud," co-written with Squidgenini.

In early 2023, Byrne earned a Grammy Award nomination for his work on BAYNK's song 'Till It's Even.' Though they didn't secure a win but the nomination was a significant recognition.

Unfazed by any slowdown, Byrne released his debut album, "Mosquito Love," in August 2023, comprising eight invigorating tracks that helped solidified 1tbsp's presence on the global scene, shedding its "side-project" label and now standing proudly alongside Golden Vessel as Byrne's second main venture.

On the home touring front, 1tbsp conducted a successful nine-date Australian tour in 2023, which included a spot on the “Groovin’ The Moo” festival, as well as hosting a Sold Out EP launch party in Brisbane named "It's Very Loud." Byrne showcased at BIGSOUND in September, secured a spot in the Listen Out touring festival across Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney, and was also selected to perform at the inaugural SXSW Sydney in October.

Following those Australian shows, Byrne then embarked on a seven-date North American tour playing to packed rooms in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Toronto and Montreal, and he’s already planning a return in 2024, affirming that the vibrant journey of 1tbsp continues with unabated momentum.
